i think people want to think they're superior to all else that lives, that everything else is here solely for their amusement. they don't want to believe taht other creatures have just as much right to live peacefully, nor do they want to acknowledge the responsibility of taking the consequences for thier own actions.
this does not excuse them. poor Tatiana....

Not to be mean, I feel bad for the guy who got mauled, but these three wastes of space now have to live with the fact that they caused this to happen.
I hope it teaches them respect. Doubtful, but we at least know they have some fear now.
