Summary: Okay, Let’s pretend Cutler and James studied together. They are completely bored, like most men of their age, and have nothing else to do then drinking, gambling and *dating* (...).

Notes: I blame, in a very nice way, my german teacher for this who is feeding me with too much information about students in the 19 century and their opinion of women.
Btw James and Cutler, in my crazy mind, must of known each other before AWE, so here is my proof :).

If you comment, which I would appreciate, please tell  me if the stuff in the parenthesis are necessary.

James is having an affair with a married women, which is troubling Cutler because there are just too many things to worry about. So he tries to get James’ mind off this woman by asking his affair to íntroduce a friend of hers to James. Well that didn’t work out as Cutler planed now James has two affairs and Cutler more headaches.

Student room. James lying on the bed, his feet dangling. Cutler leaning against the book shelf, shaking his head, rubbing his face with his hands.

Cutler Beckett (his chin resting in his palm): Please, James - do me the favor, be sensible. Give up this damn affair - even on my behalf. Mather of fact, I have nerve too.
I know, you are not the man who would through himself into a burning fire but you are not capable of putting out the fire on your own. This is why I gave you the chance to get out of the heat and into something more suitable for your own sake - and mine!

James Norrington (rolling his eyes): Oh really?

Cutler: Well, didn’t I take you with me to my rendezvous with Miss Suzie? And haven’t I asked her to bring her prettiest girlfriend? And can you deny to me, that you didn’t fancy the little thing? A lot?

James: Certainly, she’s nice! … Very nice! And you can’t imagine how I have longed for such a tenderness without any  big emotional attachment. After something so sweet and gentle I feel absolutely enthralled. And finally, this relationship helps me to recover from all  that commotion and dissimulation.

Cutler: You got it! That’s it! Recovery! Relaxation!

James (thinking): Here we go again

Cutler: That is the deeper meaning, my friend. That’s what they are there for. That is why I am against the so-called interesting women. The women do not have to be interesting, but enjoyable. You should start to seek your happiness, where I have looked for it and found it. In a place where no big scenes exist, no threats, no tragic implications. The beginning has no special difficulties and yet the end has no agony. When one smiles while receiving one’s first kiss and where the emotional divorce is very gentle.

James: Yes, I suppose I got it. That should be it.

Cutler:(wandering cross the room): The skirt are happy there, trust me. Any skirt would be, in there healthy mind. What gives us the right to make them to whores or wives? Demons or angels? I am telling you again, they are happy in their position there, don’t take it from them.

James(getting up, fixing his shirt and hair): She’s truely dear. So devoted, too devoted perhaps. So loving. Sometimes I believe to loving for me, for my path with her, for it’s short and I’ll soon be on another path with someone else.

Cutler: Are you doing this on purpose? You never learn from the past, do you?
But if you do have the intention, to take the matter seriously again,  then -

James(imitating Cutler): Forget that! I am not even going to contemplate this matter ever again. Think about intercourse, too strenuous. I thought we were united in that point: Relaxation!

Cutler: I would keep my hands away from you, if I was a woman.  You’re aggravating. I am sick and tired of your love tragedies. You anoy me with them. You bore me, if you want to know the truth.  And if you start preaching again, and come with your stories of conscience and a moral center, I have to disappoint you once again. I won’t betray my simple principle: Me before them.
They will get their turn, eventually.
