Women in Engineering

Jan 10, 2007 15:26

The most recent issue of Water Environment and Technology has an article discussing women in the engineering field. Most of the women interviewed have been in the field 20 years, so they started when things were probably a bit more unequal and have seen things change for the better. Some feel there's more work to be done, and I guess one means of ( Read more... )

(except when I realize I'm showing cleavage because I observe the "wandering eyes" phenomenon, like earlier today - but, hey! it wasn't on purpose! it's not like men never do things they shouldn't in the workplace...)

Oh? Someone I need to kill? Just line 'em up with the others.

I was figuring that you'd want to see the top and see just how "thog like woman" brainprocess-inducing it was.

And how much better it would be without the top.

Oh, I have seen the top. Purchases several lookalikes for her for Xmas, in fact.

And Thog DOES like.

Pondering Fuzzy topless in the middle of a low Tg adhesive meeting is a far, far better use of my limited mindshare than what's going on around me, I can assure you.

It was my boss - it was VERY brief, and didn't really make me feel uncomfortable. For all I know, he was looking at my necklace.

And no, you can't kill him, cus then I'll be completely out of work.

That is a good quote. I run into a fair amount of that in the computer field as well. Most occurrences of discrimination for me don't tend to last long as soon as they realize there's a brain in there. I don't agree with many of the "women-only" groups either.

I think the women-only groups, at least in school, is really just trying to encourage women to stay in their fields. There have been only a handful of women in my computer science classes at the U. Only a few in software engineering. It certainly still seems there certainly is still sexism (as well as other prejudice) in general, but heck if I know the best way to deal with it.

"I wouldn't call myself a "tom-boy" or particularly aggressive, by any means."

Hrm.

Wisdom: remaining quiet.

My actual reaction: "BWA HA HA HA HA! HEEEE! MWA HA HA! HOO-WEEE!"

Mmm. Comfy couch.
