I'm admittedly a little confused -- I thought that je te amie was the more proper way to say it. I was told (admittedly I don't know French other than "Voulez-vous couchez avec moi ce soir?") that je t'aime is informal, and I guess, I always pictured Sherlock as being very proper in his pronunciation.

Am I mistaken?

"Je t'aime," as far as I know, is the way to say it. "Je te amie" sounds more like "I you friend." Even if this were the appropriate phrase, "te" and "amie" would've been contracted to "t'amie."
