I work in the automotive dept of my store as a cashier. One of the main things people buy is car batteries. For those who don't know, car batteries are big, full of liquid (acid), and as such are really really heavy.
Guy comes in wanting to buy multiple batteries. He knows exactly what size he needs and starts grabbing them from the shelf and putting them in his cart. He seems to have things in hand, so I help other customers and do some paperwork on returns.
All of sudden he turns to me and says "I could use a hand over here. Y'know I've had spinal surgery. By all rights I shouldn't be lifting over ten pounds, much less these things."
I rush over to help him put the batteries in his cart for him. He continues whinging (and it is whinging tones, not angry yelling) about his back and how I should have helped him at the start because he can't lift these by himself y'know.
I help him and check him out with my retail smile firmly in place. All the while thinking, "No, dude, I didn't know shit about your back until you used your words and told me."
