too hot for this shit

That Holocaust AU fic is back up. I have better things to do than go shout at people some more, and also that would be incredibly unproductive for everyone, because apparently enough of fandom already thinks that Jewish people are lurking all around them JUST WAITING TO BE OFFENDED AND DOGPILE THEM. But she erased all the comments saying anything ( Read more... )

Um, wow. They only last you two years, wearing them all day, and you call them well-made? I used to own a pair of Nike trainers - my only pair of designer shoes of any kind, ever - and they lasted me ten years, worn pretty much all day every day apart from during school hours. Two years is lousy for that kind of price!

Better-made than I expected from canvas shoes, sure. I meant I assume cheap knockoffs will be of lower quality, not that Chucks are incredibly durable, cause they're not.

I have never actually had Chucks or even knock-offs.

I like 'em cause they're simple-looking and comfortable and look good with anything casual. So many sneakers are so visually complicated and blobby-shaped.

I love Chucks. They're perfect for my flat feet/wide toes combo, and they're one of only two brands I can reliably wear, and cost about half as much as the other. (I can also destroy a pair of shoes in record time by walking off the sole and funking out the inside; a year and a half for a $50 pair of shoes is a really good run, especially if you walk a lot.)

NO ONE CARES ABOUT ERNEST HEMINGWAY, HISTORY, HE WAS A DICK.

And so much word. Also he wrote, like, two good books before he descended into alcohol-fueled self-parody.

I do walk a lot-- I have classes usually at 14th and Wabash and some days can end up at the Borders on State and Randolph, so, yeah. Lots of walking. I am even more pleased with a pair of tall, low-heeled black boots I got from Payless in fall 2006 that I wear a few times a week most of the year-- with skirts in fall and spring and over jeans in winter-- and despite being tromped in through puddles and slush and god knows, still look classy and new. That is a damn good investment for $35. /tangential anecdote

All I remember about Hemingway from high school is "Hills Like White Elephants," which, ugh. And he was seriously awful to Gellhorn-- kept trying to undercut her and actively sabotage her because he was bitter at having married someone ten times awesomer than him. (In short.)

Is this fic being discussed somewhere, or were you just tracking it to see if it came back up?

I don't know where it's being discussed if anywhere-- there's a link in the comments to a bandom comm but everyone there was sympathetic to her. I certainly didn't expect her to unlock it; I set comment tracking the day it went up and never remember to un-track anything, and was pleasantly surprised this afternoon to come back from errands and find I was getting notifications about it again.

Ah, okay. I was just wondering how you knew about it and was looking at unfunnybusiness and metafandom to see how you found it.

I mentioned it some places and people picked up on it. I forget how I was notified about it right now, though. And there is conversation - on both LJ and DW. There was conversation on the damn post - until the OP deleted them all.
