I've been meaning to do this for a while, and this seems like a good time to do it - all the stories I was Going To Publish First are published, and my next project appears to be a 50,000-word original novel (yup, still crazy), so that won't be appearing for a while.

Uh, yep. The first draft was one of those odd plot-bunny-hutch fic-things I sometimes scrawl, with a lot of idea snippets crammed into a small space and none of them developed.
The specific snippet that became or inspired this fic began "He reverses the polarity of the laboratory sink - with predictable results" (i.e. he got soaking wet), which came out of a discussion with my sisters about reversing the polarity of things like neutron flows and kitchen sinks that don't have obvious polarity to begin with. (And that came from my habit of repeating fun expressions like "reverse the polarity" ad nauseam. *g ( ... )

This came from my reading an abundance of fics where the author attempts (not usually successfully) to explain why all Time Lords appear to speak with various types of British accent - I'd been wanting to try writing an American or other non-British-sounding Time Lord. I'm not sure how well I succeeded, but I like the way Noodles's voice turned out.

Originally Nostradamus was going to look a bit more imposing, but on considering how most of the people on Doctor Who actually look, I went with a more "British character actor and inexplicable wardrobe department" design. ;-)
