So, with all the remix_redux chatter floating around, I gather a good many of y'all know more about remixing than I do. So I have a question for you ( Read more... )

Being new to remixes myself, I didn't do anything like that for my title, I just used the notes/summary section to say it was a remix, and link to the original fic. It wasn't until the collection opened and I saw all those other titles using one of the formulas above that I wondered if maybe I did it wrong, too! As far as I can tell, there isn't a standard rule, per se, though the parentheses thing seems to be a common convention. If I were to do it again, I think I'd go with "New Title (The Original Title Remix)" because that's what it is. The new fic is a remix of the original fic, so structuring the title that way would seem to make the most sense. That is, if you didn't just put it in the notes, which I think would work just as well. *shrug*

Although, now that I look at it, I think doing it the opposite way, "Original Title (The New Title Remix)" is more common in music. Like, "My Heart Will Go On (The Dance Hall Remix)," that way you know immediately what the song is, followed by the stylistic change that's been done to it. Then again, I don't think most of the remixed fics will have the kind of name recognition that most songs do, so maybe doing it the first way still works?

Dang, I think I've just confused myself.

Okay, try this, the mods of remix_redux posted a sample template two remixes ago, advocating the "The Original Title (The New Title Remix)" version. (You may want to check out that comm in general).

Now I'm going to stop spamming your entry like a crazy person.

Hey, it's not spam if it has useful content. And you're not crazy, you're very helpful. Thanks!

The "dance hall remix" thing... that actually makes sense. :D And the sample template agrees with it. So I guess I know what I should be doing here!

*goes to stare at remix and try to describe stylistic changes in a title-y way*
