Light is scribbling a letter to someone. For some reason, the ink is green. How strange. A few precisely-marked words leap off the page to a casual glance: "incoherent", "maudlin" and "incompetent" are high on the list.

You shouldn't be so rude to Vashti.

Of course it does. *Flatly; that was a fast five seconds.*

But I'm thinking Vashti's politics, unlike yours, dictate the same amount of freedom for everyone, and, also unlike yours, are the ones that become relevant when the real world comes into play.

Oh, you'd be surprised. [purring]

What about Ellie, Mel? How does she feel about all of this?

She has a distressing tendency to do things "for the lulz." *Return of the sarcastic air quotes!*

But she won't ever fuck things up permanently for me.

[Not that he's bitter as the Dead Sea, or anything.]

Apparently she'd prefer it if I didn't "emo", especially here. It upsets her.

That might have promise.

I'd be amused, but I don't want her to feel bad, so.

It's why you'll never get my name. *Smirk!*

Ah, so that's the secret. [cold]

You realise mine wants me to have it?

*A long glare that encompasses him and the air above them.*

Mine hates the idea, but she keeps fucking coming back to it.

[As she glares upwards, his mouth twitches in one corner.]

There's a tedious inevitability to the whole business. As I've said, uh, elsewhere, Mel, we might be better off making this less compelling for them. I'm sure you could find some pretext to tell me.

I'll tell you here, because I know it would kill you that you don't get to know it for real.

Is that the game we're playing? [unruffled] In that case, I should point out that if anything does happen between us, it's likely to finish far worse for you than it does for me.

Or would it give you that excuse you've been looking for?

You think I want you to know? I don't have a death wish, unlike some of my alternates.

You, however, never seem to pass up a chance to make me want to shoot you. That's interesting.

Honestly, Mel, I think what scares you most is the idea that I might not kill you. Perhaps it's the same kind of thing.

I'm not scared at all. She'll never let me get that broken.
