You have to be kidding me... did you not actully read the book?
*spoiler alert for those who don't know the details*
Right before Snape killed Dumbledore, he looked at him with "revulsion and hatred". That doesn't sound very sad to me. Also, it wasn't Dumbledore that Snape made the promise to. It was to Malfoy's mom. He promised that he would carry out Malfoy's orders if for some reason Malfoy wasn't able to do it.
Okay now.... (steps off soapbox) as for my personal opinion, I still think that Snape has a card up his sleeve. I don't think Dumbledore would have put that much faith in him for no reason. Despite the fact that Snape killed Dumbledore (which he did cause of the Unbreakable Vow), I still think he plans to backstab Voldemort. Tho, I have to admit I could be wrong. Rowlings is trying really really really hard to get people to doubt and hate Snape, which always means one of two things. One, he really is evil at the core or two, misdirection. I'm voting for misdirection, but that's my opinion.
Um, yes, I did read Half-Blood Prince. Two times, to be exact. You don't have to be so rude about it. I obviously interpretted it differently than you.
As far as the whole Snape Dumbldore thing, it is one of the best usages of character driven plotting from a plot driven author, that I have ever seen.
She did a master stroke by making Snape a "possible" killer (Dumbledore might be dead...he might not be dead). The plotting of Snape in the books has been rather narrow, clearly he has a dark past, clearly he hates Harry. I read the books all in one go, and I kept waiting for Harry to open up to Snape, or vice-a-versa, it didn't happen. "Good Snape" is something more found in fanfiction then in books.
This is not to say Snape isn't "Dumbledore's Man," he very well could be. Snape kills Dumbledore, but the question before us is *why* It was the best cliffhanger I could have imagined. It makes "No, I am your father!" in Empire look like a speed bump. We as fans are going to go nuts the next two years, reading and rereading page 606 like the Zapruder film. "And Dumbledore falls, back and to the left...back and to the left."We "know"
