Curious About Straightening Techniques

Hi!  I have naturally very thick curly hair and I love it, but I just feel like doing something different.  I wanted to try straightening just to see what it's like to have straight hair, and maybe try a style that wouldn't work so well on my curly hair.  I was thinking about getting a semi-permanent treatment of some sort but I have no idea what's ( Read more... )

I get my hair chemically relaxed, and it's fairly gentle on my hair. It is still curly but far less so than it would be normally. The person I go to uses chemicals that does not contain lye (sp?), which is the chemical that is so bad for your hair. So I would ask that question of the place you plan to do it. It usually starts to grow out in a few months. My experience has been good. You can still wear your hair curly, but it is far easier to straighten when you want something different. It cut my straightening time from about an hour and a half to 20 minutes. :) Good luck!

This might be kind of an awkward question, but about how much do you pay for a treatment? Anyway, thanks a lot :)

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely avoid that.

I have very thick curly hair and I love my Remington Wet to Straight. It allows me to straighten it when it's wet. Works like a dream! I love it.

Since you're straightening while you have wet hair does it take less time then it would with dry hair? It seems like it would just because there's a lot less volume.

Thanks!

when i straighten my hair wet it takes more time, though there is less volume, its more dense and the water hast to go away before it is straight. but maybe this is bc my hair has really tight curls.

It takes me 45 minutes to straighten my hair wet. It would take me 2 hours to do it when it was dry. To use a blow dryer and brush it takes the hairdresser between 45 minutes to an hour...

I love it, I would never even consider straightening my own hair before the wet to straight... now, I do it all the time...

I have very thick, heavy and fizzy curly hair. I did chemical treatments back in HS, and it left me with damaged hair that almost totally fell out. Now I leave the chemical's and salon's behind me and use a 'Herstyler' straighter, it takes me a good 45 mins to straight my hair every day but it's worth it.

I had my hair relaxed a few years back and I don't regret it. I had to buy a lot of products to keep it from drying out but it cut about an hour off of my straightening time. It was fairly expensive though, which is the only reason why I haven't done it since.
