And breathe...

It has been a tiring TT - rain showers meant delays, the rest days became contingency race days and there were quite a few days when I spent a lot more of the day at church than at home. Despite delays and damp, windy, weather only one of the competitors was injured enough to still be in hospital today, and three or four of those 45,000 visitors ( Read more... )

Every year we wonder 'can we do this again?' but so far the answer is yes!

What a busy soul you've been. Congratulations on keeping so many people fed and watered. I'm sure your efforts were very much appreciated.

We do get some lovely comments, both in person and on FB. And this week is back to normal - bookshop today, Tuesday group tomorrow afternoon, girls' night on Thursday - and no need to bake a single cake :)

I take it you don't also have a summer fete? How you keep enough volunteers willing to keep going for a fortnight at that pace is beyond me.

I always miss our fete as it coincides with our trip to France. They held it yesterday and repeated the fire walk.

No - we just do a slightly quieter version of the same thing for the other big festival of motorcycling in late August :)

Some of us are there all the way through, some do half a day every day, others will do three or four hours twice, or just a couple of hours. And others bake at home and drop cake off.

We quite often start a day by me looking at the table with all the full cake tins and saying 'well that should do us for a couple of days...' Only to look at the same table at the end of the day and say 'Well we have a couple of lemon drizzle, a couple of gingerbreads, that apple and sultana and two chocolate fudge cakes... Who has what in their freezer, and who said they would bring more tomorrow?'

What a wild time! I'm sorry to hear about the serious injury, but considering the blistering race speeds that really is a very small number.

You baked an astounding amount of goodies. I know every one of them was enjoyed immensely.

Honestly the speeds are amazing - 200mph through one of the speed traps is not unusual for the top guys!

We get a lot of compliments and messages thanking us for 'the best value on the island', 'the best cake anywhere around the course'... and then there was 'only place, apart from the grandstand, where my wife will watch because you have decent toilets':)

That really is quite the annual fundraiser for your church! Well done!

Thank you. Last year's money paid for new windows, lighting, and insulation, for the quiet room. Over the years the money had also paid for the really good kitchen and the disabled toilet - both of which are then appreciated by the people who come!
