It is the Winter Solstice today. It has been so dark all day that there has not been a time when we didn't need the lights on indoors, and all the cars have had their headlights on all day. But there are lots of lights in windows, outside houses, and in town, so not as gloomy as it would have been otherwise

It was cold (3C) when I went to go shopping at 8am this morning and I had to defrost the car - but the sun is shining now and frosty mornings are what we expect for this time of year. The different perceptions of the same temperature depending on your 'norm' always makes me smile - 16C is the point at which I reckon I can go out in a T shirt and cardigan and not bother with a coat! Whereas my 'cold' this morning would be no-coat level for someone where winter temperatures are degrees below freezing for weeks on end :)
