Our last cat was an enthusiastic birder - but fortunately not a very successful one - but it is one reason why we don't have a cat in this house as we have a lot of birds around.
Shaka's problem was that our backyard in that house was very small, and so very few birds came down to ground level, but preferred to sit up in the tree just out of reach. But if they came down to anything below six feet off the ground he would be airborne.
He was called Shaka after the goalkeeper of the team we support as even as a kitten he preferred a game where he jumped up for a toy rather than one where you rolled it for him.
He did occasionally bring home a bird caught elsewhere - but more than once he managed to lose them in the yard and they would hide behind the plant pots. Then we had to try to keep him in the house whilst we tried to shepherd a bird towards the back gate so that it was in a bigger space and could take off if it could :)
Beautiful pictures! My comfort food is Wiener Schnitzel - but only the way Mum makes them. Everywhere else they are dry and hard like shoesoles, while Mum's are soft and juicy and oh-so-yummy.
I am touched that the mouse was saved and taken far away. A most necessary life-saving trip indeed!
It's funny but Vicki has been asking me lately how to make certain favourite dishes I would make during her childhood. Like everybody else, he can't go out to eat or meet friends or come over here even tp eat with us so I think she is remembering certain comfort foods. :)
I see the cat...what good camouflage! But he has no good intentions!
I have a "gone back to nature" corner in the back area of teh garden. OK...it is a jungle area. LOL
I hope the mouse appreciates his new surroundings!
Is Vicki wanting the recipes for complicated things or did you also sometimes make things with a packet of this and a packet of that? And are they things she wants to make for herself?
You can see why we have named him EvilCat.
I wanted to clear that corner and put 'proper' things in there - but I thought a couple of days ago that really, it is so shaded that it would be much better to let it be as it is and hope it is useful to the wildlife.
Vicki loves cooking so she wants both complicated dishes and the packet of this, packet of that kind also. Yes, she makes them for herself and has taken to freezing portions for leftovers. Since she is still working all day she cooks on weekends for now. Like so many of us, since she can't go out with friends on weekends these days, she is cooking more then. And baking. She loves to make cakes!
I'm not sure if D-d is baking at the moment - she also loves it but there is always the urge to eat it! Although as they are all at home at the moment she would have volunteers to do that for her. She has at least one fellow baker in the house though - NYK1 loves to bake - he made her a rather smart two tiered birthday cake :)
But it is interesting which things remind these daughters of their childhoods.
I said to my daughter that perhaps Tegi brings them in, and then puts them alive onto her feet, was so that she could learn how to catch mice for herself :)

That we had both reverted back to something that involved a pack of ready made meatballs and a jar of ready made sauce really did make us both smile.
