You can actually read the opening chapter or so... I have read quite a lot of fic written int he same style, some much worse, quite a bit that is, certainly, much better!
Pre-gig soup is such an excellent idea, but somehow it was the idea of the' nice lemon drizzle cake made by the bass player' that really made me smile.
You can actually read the opening chapters at Amazon and it isn't familiar to me. But I still wouldn't be at all surprised if it hadn't started as Thranduil fanfic! I am, almost, tempted.
And how wonderful that gig sounds - I now think all the best gigs should start with soup, bread, and a nice bit of lemon drizzle cake :)
I would expect it to be on Amazon USA as the girl who is dragged into the realm of the elves is definitely an American. Probably on cheap offer there, too.
And how brilliant is a gig where the singer makes you soup and the bassist makes a nice lemon drizzle cake!
You have really got to go and read the 'look inside' option - there are three short chapters there...
I'm not sure what you have to do to become a 'New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author' but I'm guessing you don't have to be any better than the average standard at the Pit of Voles, and not an awful lot better than the average at AO3 (which standard, at least in the Tolkien fandom, is actually lower than at FF.net).
I have always said that being published is no sign of quality- I have read some dreadful novels and some fantastic fan fic, although you're right, the writing quality here is not bad at all, it's the premise and the dreadful cover art that lets it down.
Maybe all her sales are from people posting about how ficcy she sounds and then everyone buying it to see? :)

Ye Gods I wonder if the rest of it is as badly written as the blurb
Pre gig soup! Now that's full service entertaining!

I absolutely LOVE that Geoff served his audience soup, bread and lemon drizzle cake! You live in a wonderful place.

I know of a couple of fan fic authors who have made the jump to 'real' writing. Though I have read Fan Fic that was much better than the 'real' stuff!
Feeding the audience first was a nice touch, I hope they enjoyed the music as much as the food.
B.H. is fixing the window, just hope he cut the plastic to the right size and it has warmed up in the sun enough to be pliable.

Good thinking! I have to admit that the bit I read didn't seem familiar, but it is very reminiscent of a certain category of fic.
