Cupcakes Before Christmas

Dec 23, 2007 16:47

I got an early Christmas present. A piping bag. So, I just had to give it a go. It's my first time using a real piping bag. Before I would use a ziploc bag and just cut a corner. I'm a slow learner so its not the best. But I'm still very impressed. I made two batches of cupcakes. One mint chocolate cupcake, and the other a cookies and cream cupcake ( Read more... )

The chocolate bit was actually a mint chocolate bud. My boyfriend had bought a box of them awhile back but they got pushed to the back of the cupboard. I found them last night and I thought they would work just perfectly on top of my cupcakes. Truthfully, they were a bit hard for such a soft cupcake. But, if it wasn't your cup of tea, they were easy to remove. And, looks are very important haha.

a) what sort of tips were you using. I'm always jealous when people get the big swirls. I only get little swirls =/
b) where do you get those containers?!

thank you =]

Uh, I just started piping... so I don't know if there are names for the type of tips I used... but they kind of looked like this. ( http://www.cookies-in-motion.com/images/pipingtips.jpg ) I know that they were quite big and I remember thinking they were almost too big, but they turned out perfect.

That was probably no help, sorry :(

And I got those containers from a place called MTF Wholesale. Don't know if they have any outside of BC, they must, but I don't know. They had a bunch of these for 10 cents. They also had giant plastic cake containers for 50 cents. :)

Awesome. And here I am, still having not figured out how to get flat cupcake tops like that.

I just tried a variety of different cake recipes. Finally came across a few that produced a flat top. This one was very different as it came out with a crispy top at the end that was very delicate and cracked easily. However, it tasted amazing like that, quite similar to a brownie without being overly rich.
