Have you already tried to trick him with a cardboard cut-out of you? You could combine it with a baby monitor for your voice for more realism.

These look all good. Are the cornices fences or that other kind that came with the later expansions?

I'm afraid he saw through that trick, as the substitute me didn't drink enough tea. ;)

The cornices are actually fences, for greater flexibility.
