aigooism and I were thinking of possibly starting up our own fic exchange. We're both veterans of the HP fandom and we've both participated in countless fic exchanges. I've run fic exchanges before in other fandoms

I think that all pairings/themes/characters have been covered already. Having said that... Why not another one? It could be worthwile, though, to check first what fests already exist.
I've actually never written fanfiction before and can count the number I've read on one hand so I know don't know the difference between common and rare pairings. I'm not even really sure what a fanfic exchange is, however, being a friend of Tara's, I would be interested to get into fanfiction and would choose your exchange to get started if you were to begin one.
Being a complete newb, what I would value most in an exchange is one that was well-organised and professional but friendly (which I'm sure you would both achieve) and was somehow distinguished for its quality of submissions so that it would be very enjoyable to read as well as write for. Although I don't mind reading and writing about any pairings, the idea of limiting it to just Slytherin characters or really, any house or group, really interests me because it's more a challenge, and these boundaries can do wonders for the creative juices.
Thanks for your opinions! As of right now, it looks like we might not really do this exchange because there are far too many exchanges already in existence . . . however, your words do give me at least some good feelings about doing this in the future. It's always nice to see others joining in the fandom world, and you're right! As long as the organisers are professional AND friendly, then it will be a fun experience! :)
I am still 100% behind your idea to launch your own fanfic exchange. Sometimes you might not find a need for doing any online project but even if it's just for your own pure enjoyment then you should go for it for the sake of having some fun :). I will take a look around the good exchanges that curia_regis recommends me and let you know if I see any points of differentiation that you guys can use to set your future fanfic exchange apart

That would be good. :) I've just noticed that there are a huge number of exchanges and a lot of the olbies of the fandom seem a bit worn out with the fact new exchanges pop up every few weeks! Oh, hp_bookof_fests is a good place to friend to see when new exchanges pop up. A lot of people advertise there.
Hmm. *bites lip* It's a good idea but I think there is unfortunately the possibility of wank involved. :( I think people might get upset if they didn't 'win'. Plus, the judging process would be very subjective. I've seen fic awards in the HP fandom and other fandoms before and invariably, some people end up upset. :(
