As I sit here reviewing the latest Service Request document, listening to Dr. Steel sing about the Singularity with an article on transhumanism open in the web browser, it suddenly hits me: I am passively, yet eagerly, awaiting the future. The passivity bugs me ( Read more... )

Hrm.

Why not reinvent yourself? Put yourself into a situation where you're forced to, structurally. I mean, choosing not to is valid, of course, but you only live once.

One thing you're doing to make the future more awesome is being yourself. By noticing and collecting some canes, for example (and this is really a thank-you note), you've made my day limitlessly easier. I really appreciate the loan. It's let me get to work more easily and with less pain, but also to have something lovely to help me along. And here at work, I create things to go forward with.

Also, jetpacks aside, the portability of Google Maps is my evidence that we're in The Better Future right now. As such, I think noticing and picking up beautiful things is helpful in generating a better place going forward.

And I find it astonishing to regularly discover well-run, decent human packs of geekery these days. So there's also that.
