Toilets?

So, kind of an odd question, but my husband and I just bought a house (yay!), but I have been seriously disappointed with the quality of the toilets within. To put it nicely, they canʻt flush everything that my Crohnʻs throws at them. Iʻm not sure whether theyʻre excessively low-flow (1.6 gallons per flush) or if theyʻre just really crappy toilets ( Read more... )

I've been wondering about this myself because my partner and I want to buy a house in the next couple of years, and I can imagine turning an understair cloakroom into a loo, as happened in the house I grew up in. So I've been thinking about the whole issue of how to choose toilets with this kind of thing in mind. Off the top of my head, you might want to look at Dutch- or German-style toilets which have... an inspection shelf. The idea tends to weird out people who are unfamiliar with them, but I discovered them while visiting Holland and realised that it solved a lot of problems to just drape the shelf with a couple of sheets of toilet paper - everything got washed away cleanly on flushing.

The other thing to consider is types with two flush buttons - that way you have the choice of using less water when it's just pee, but the full flush for Crohn's, er, products...
