All writers have crutches. Editors help us see those crutches and provide us with tools to stand on our own 100k words. “As” is a common crutch and one that I have. Although I’m not as bad as some, I want to get rid of it. I'll have one pet word, get called on it by my betas, delete it where it's unnecessary and.... pick a new one *head desk*.

I'm not doing it on purpose. It just happens and once I know I'm abusing the hell out of a word, I stop. Why I subconsciously pick a new word to torment... that's anybody's guess.
