I gave in: I downloaded, burnt to CD and watched it with the Male. (Fandom owes me for the "omg you what?" look he gave me. *g*) Anyway, the real gist of this is "the world is lucky we are not a force of darkness".
You know, I am just so cross with the writers of this show that I have no faith in their ability to not have whatever he whispered be something grossly STUPID.
Really. Quite cross. But I'm with you on the reasons to keep watching. *G*
Re: Night Watch, remind me to lend you the book sometime when there's an empty slot in your reading schedule. Because it really has a whole lot more intricate awesome depth to the Light and Dark thing. The movie tried really hard in bringing the material across, but there are some things it just couldn't do.
Re: omg dude it's been forever. Afterwork coffee on Monday, or are you totally not up to it? We could even maybe go to Groove Train in Central if you don't feel like schlepping all the way to mine, because Amy and I'll be at work.
Seriously, someone needs to explain this overwhelming love of John Winchester to me 'cos ARGH.
Because Jeffrey Dean Morgan is hot.
I wish it was deeper than that. It's not. He's got dimples and a growly, rough voice, and wears the stubble well. I fully admit that John is a shit dad. He just happens to be a shitty dad that's hot.
Well, I guess I shouldn't speak for everyone, but that's where my love of John sprung from. :P
See, I don't get that at all. I don't find him hot even a little bit. He's sort of pudgy and hirsute, and his voice does nothing for me. Give me Michael Wincott any day. *G*
If he was smarter and better at what he did, I would be all over him. Capable, jaded, bitter, tired men? O.M.G. Yes please. But he's a twit and he's annoyingly not good.
So, er, yeah. But you should rock on with the love, yo. The fun's in the differences. *G*
I like to think that Dean-as-a-spirit is simply verbalising his already existing internal monologue of emo. The guy can angst and guilt trip with the best of them, but we're not too familiar with it because he rarely shows it. That's just not who he is/pretends to be. But invisible to his family, watching them come apart and feeling completely helpless about it (a feeling Dean is no doubt uncomfortable with), I kinda feel that his reaction is spot on. I think we were witnessing his thoughts unfiltered by the need to remain cool and collected for the people around him. Since they can't see him, he's free to say things he might not otherwise.
Given the things the demon said, John's apparent inactivity and secretiveness, Sam's emo, and the threat still hanging over their heads, it just worked for me. Any other time and I might have been sceptical, but Dean is everything he never wanted to be: invisible, helpless, hurt.
Yeah, see, I think that's probably how the writers intended it to work. And to a certain extent it does work. I just had this kneejerk of "omg no, if Dean starts whining this series, I'm outta here. I can't take BOTH OF THEM DOING IT!" *G*
I personally don't see what's wrong with John being inactive. As I said, there are some things that there is just no natural way to combat, and unnatural means lead to high and bloody costs. Exhibit A: "Faith". Exhibit B: John Winchester. I dunno. Sometimes not doing something is the greater good, and the more brave, noble, just and right course of action.
MWAHAHAHAHA. So you say. And I'm sticking to it. Human. Totally human. Nothing to see here. *G*
What was really great about the possessed-Tessa scene, really, was the no-nonsense quickness of it. "It's your lucky day" and the laying on of hands. Bam, bam, bam. That is how the demon should do business. If there was more of that and less poncing about being ineffectual, I would have more respect for this force of darkness.
Man, I'm happy too. I'd just be happier if it were, I dunno. Betterer. *G*

Me: Dad knows how to defeat death, now?
The Male: His other name is St Germain.
Me: That explains why he can be such a tosser.
*dies laughing* SO MUCH LOVE.
I know we felt differently about the episode, but I can't disagree with a thing you said here.
