I was going to write a long chatty post which:
  • discussed how weirdly different the pattern of LJ comments is from story to story, and how some stories end up being sleeper hits (at least according to the somewhat dubious measure of number of comments received), while others have a brief flash of commentiness when first posted, and then fade into ( Read more... )

I love the Scientific Method but I especially love The Relative Merits of Wanting and Getting, and can totally see why they are still getting comments! But it's interesting that I'm not sure I left feedback for the second while I know I left it for the first, even though they both had the whoa factor. I don't know why! Well this could be considered feedback, because I love them both.

Ah dentists are strange, I had one who could completely understand what I was saying even when my mouth was open, and everything I said was gibberish!

Anyway carry on!

Re: the otters: This is apropos of nothing, but I thought it might amuse you. I have heard writers compared to otters, actually. Some fairly famous editor said once that writers are like otters because they're impossible to train. Otters don't do the whole "food for trick" thing very well because they're always trying to improve the trick. You give an otter a fish for doing a trick and they go, "Nifty! Next time, I'll do something EVEN COOLER!" She said, "Now, as an editor, you have a bestselling writer, you want that writer to keep on doing whatever s/he did to be bestselling. Whereas the writer is going, 'Hey, I sold books! Nifty! Next time I'll do something EVEN COOLER ( ... )

Yes, it can be quite difficult for very intelligent and talented people to come to terms with how different they are from the majority of people around them. Having insight into situations through genius is almost like having extra senses that are able to perceive things that most people can neither perceive nor imagine ( ... )
