Marmite.

Marmite is a bit like vegemite, but it's made from yeast extract; it's thick, dark brown, salty gunk with a really strong flavour, which has a faint yeasty edge to it. British people have known it since their earliest childhood and either love it like that friend of your mum's who's always been called Auntie Whatever, or hate it with a passion. You spread it thin on toast, or put a bit in gravy or stews to give them flavour. It's stuffed full of B vitamins and Marmite toast is one of my personal favourite hangover cures/general pick-me-ups.

What's the one way Marmite unexpectedly saved Atlantis?

Heeee. Actually, I've had Marmite and I'm one of the freaks who likes it. Saving Atlantis? I shall have to ponder that deeply. ;)

Ok, it took me since last night to think of a prompt, but if you're still taking them, I was wondering what your take on declassification of the SG program was. In the form of a question: "So, Col. Sheppard, what were your experiences with declassification?"

OMG. It's like you know my secret weakness. I *hunger* for that story!

But I can't write it until I finish Overheard 4. Because you promised me pretties if I did that :)

\o/ Me too! Also hungry!

you promised me pretties if I did that :)

Ha, I did, didn't I. And alright, part of the trouble was really thinking up a prompt that wasn't "Um. Finish Overheard 4?" So. *anticipates*

Rodney is secretly religious.

Rodney holding a rosary when he was little. Looking at the stained glass windows and calculating light angles. Sitting on his knees until they felt cold and bruised. Realizing he didn't even know what to say to a God that was contained in candles, incense and holy water. (So he is silent.)

Rodney never prayed on Atlantis. Until he did, in whispered, muted tones,

"Our father, who art in heaven..."

and the first wraith dart hit the city.

(I'm curious as to what you see when you think about this prompt, I once was a Catholic, so this is what "religion" means to me, but this can be written in as many ways as there are writers I'm sure.)

I think I see a Rodney who is yearning for faith in everything turning out okay, and for belonging and unconditional love. And it's in his moments of secret weakness, when it feels like everything he cares about depends on him getting it right--those are the moments he murmurs a prayer. I'm not sure what to, I don't know that his idea of god would be based in dogma.

Thanks for such an intriguing prompt. I am certainly thinking about it!

Odd question, but why does Lorne carry tissues with him in your Overheard series?

Zelenka snorted coffee out of his nose.

Without any change of expression, Lorne handed Zelenka a tissue.

When I was doing your remix, I very nearly remixed this story series, but didn't because it was incomplete. This moment is something that made me wonder (though it would have been barely mentioned in the mix). Tissues just seem like an odd thing to carry around. Especially when one only has so many pockets and it would seem like there might be more crucial things to carry.

So, my question-- Why the tissues? When did he start carrying them? Where did he get them? Does he requisition them from Earth? Where does he hold them? Just curious.

That is an excellent question! I think it started years and years ago on family excursions, when he always used to get slimed by the runny noses of younger siblings and the tadpoles and things they'd fish out of ponds. He got sick of always having grotty sleeves, so he pinched a couple of his dad's hankies, but then he inevitably lost them (or a sibling did, after their blood nose had stopped bleeding) and he'd get in trouble. So then he started putting wads of toilet paper in his pockets, but when a teacher found it on him one time, she was sure he was planning something bad with it, and he got dentention for a week, right in football season! And then his Scout leader said tissues were useful when camping--they could be used as toilet paper, kindling, etc, and Lorne realised it was The Solution. So he started always carrying a packet. Then puberty hit, and as he shared a bedroom with two other brothers, and a bathroom with the whole household (no time for lingering!) being able to sneak off for alone time without worrying about mess ( ... )
