At 8pm I'm leaving, heading towards the YUMSvPhySoc quiz, when Sam dashes out of the kitchen to ask me how long the oven had not been working. Indeed, it was not, and as I turned round to inspect things I spotted that the microwave was also not working. Ominous.

Things like this happen a lot on campuses I'm afraid.
But look at it this way; if it happened and you were living in a house, you wouldn't have the porters to come and (eventually) sort it out for you...
Small consolation, I know, when your kitchen is kaput.
I don't suppose there's any chance you could claim for the food you're having to buy instead of cook, or for the inconvenience it causes you?
I seem to recall a friend of mine who's flat was still having construction work done in his second year got a discount on his rent because of the trouble it caused to him.
Might be worth kicking up a fuss about?
