Thanks for the review. It's interesting to see what has changed from the early previews.

When some returns came up for the press nights, I couldnt resist and bagged a seat for tomorrow (22nd). I'll be seeing Benedict as Victor for the first time and can't wait to see what he does with it.

Have fun on Wednesday...

You're welcome. Glad you liked it. I think all the changes are for the best (although they have excised my favourite line where Frankenstein asks the Creature whether it feels remorse simply because Benedict's line reading of "remorse" was incredible). The rape and murder sequence is a million times more upsetting and the speed of the scene changes is definitely to be preferred.

Enjoy tomorrow - Victor is still very much a minor role but he does the best he can with it. I'm expecting quite a starry audience to come and see Jonny Lee Miller (look out for Jude Law!). My seat for Wednesday is also a return (and a naff seat) but for £12 I couldn't resist it.

Thanks for your review! A very detailled and interesting read. I was beginning to worry a bit bec. nobody was posting anything about BC in the role of Victor.
It is great to read about the changes already made compared with the first previews.
You really managed to make us share in the experience by writing about it all in such detail!

> Shame about M Frankenstein... He's going to get a pasting from the critics I fear.

And you were right. I suppose he can't be replaced now, after it's opened?

OK, so Victor doesn't exactly challenge Benedict but he definitely makes the most of the role.

The critics have(IMHO)got it right about the Victor character being too restricted but Benedict brings his excellent talent to it.
Once again, he makes you feel every word he says. Every ounce of emotion.

And oh lord, he looks good in a frock coat (especially the wedding scene coat) and even rocks his leather apron.

If you can see it twice, I would, as the chemistry between Benedict and JLM is great in whatever combination and they are both so different in each role that it's like watching the play afresh.

Now I just hope they release a soundtrack as the Underworld score is great.

I have a short, non-spoilery, review here:

I haven't written proper reviews but rather concentrated in detail on the differences in the acting styles between Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller.

If you are "just" a fan of BC, this might not interest you.
I am a theatre buff, however, and have always been fascinated by the actors' craft. I think it's utterly fascinating to have these two actors alternate their roles and it might as well be a once in a lifetime experience. I loved it and tried to capture as much of the experience as possible.

I'd also love to hear what other people think. If you had similar impressions or maybe saw things totally differently. No night at the theatre is the same and performances change all the time. It's what drives me mad ... and feeds my eternal fascination with theatre!

I describe both actors in both roles in several posts, though - no strict distinction for BC or JLM as Victor or creature.
