SPOILER FREE

I have just got back from my first experience of Benedict as the Creature in Frankenstein.

I have been hacking around London theatre for 20 years.

I am now a Supporting Cast Member at the National and have seen well over 80% of the productions that the National have fronted over the past 20 years.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Benedict as Creature was the best thing I have seen on the London stage in 20 years. I have never seen anything like it.

I saw Benedict as the Creature last night and haven't stopped thinking about it ever since. It inspired me to write about it after a long period of not writing much at all, but it's sort of more about my day/experience more than a serious review of the play. It's also somewhat spoilery, and there are some swearings! :p

Here, at my journal.

I'm still processing it, to be honest. Incredible stuff.

I haven't written proper reviews but rather concentrated in detail on the differences in the acting styles between Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller.

If you are "just" a fan of BC, this might not interest you.

I describe both actors in both roles in several posts, though - no strict distinction for BC or JLM as Victor or creature.

I saw the NT Live broadcast this afternoon in Southern Pines, North Carolina, a bit over an hour from where I live in Raleigh. Quite frankly, I'm still processing. Benedict was remarkable. The staging was breathtaking. I feel so privileged that I will get to see this live on May 2 for its last performance ( ... )
