Question Does it have to be a band? Because I'm really a HUGE fan of David Bowie, and I know he became a lot more popular in the seventies. So, I'm wondering, could I do an icon of David Bowie? And does it have to be centered around the music and pictures from the seventies (pretty dumb question if you ask me, but I like to make sure). You know, can I use a picture of DB now and take a song from Heroes album?
Answer Yes you can do singers, sorry I should have stated that in the post. And yes you can use a current photo of him with a lyric from Heroes as that album is from the 70s so it relates to the theme. The picture can even be a random stock image if you want. As long as it somehow relates to the 70s you're fine.
Question hi! what about soundtracks as in Grease for example?
Answer I would say - Films/sountracks set in the 70s (made in the 70s) would be acceptable. However, your example Grease, was set in the 50s with many songs originally written in the 50s and does not relate to the 70s music culture at all. So I'm going to have to say no to Grease.
Don't get your hopes up though, I can pretty much guarantee a 50s theme happening eventually. ;)
Question I have a silly question: do photos I use have to be taken in 70s or will earlier/later shoots do?
Answer As long as you're using text relating to the 70s you can use any image (taken anytime).
Example: This would be if acceptable if it were a 50s challenge. Lyric: "Summer days drifted away" - From the movie Grease. Image: Sunset - or leaves turning - etc (I just woke up, and I can't think of a better example right now).
So, if you fulfill the 70s music somehow in your icon somehow, you're good. Hopefully that answered your question if not, clarify and ask again :D
Clarification I'm sorry, I didn't make it clear, I was asking about band/singer photos. I'm going to make icons of my fav band/singer, but I'm not sure if photos were taken in 70s or 80s... Do I really have to add text?
Answer Ah, sorry. My just woken up brain failed me. As it's really difficult to know when the photos were taken I can't really say no as they may be from the 70s. I suppose if the singer/band rose to fame in the 70s it'd be fine. Also, if using a band/singer photo you do not need to add text.
