18th arrest; but my own father said give her up don't bother

public, voice;
This is Chief Kate Beckett, making a quick note as a courtesy. You may not recognize me when I come into the office this morning. I'm, uh. Male. Castle, I took the liberty of raiding your wardrobe.

Go ahead, get the laughter out now. [And Kate flips to video, linefacing and looking fairly unamused. And manly!]

this cannot be worse, need to go shoot something now, checking in, affected, plot: rido's game, let's put the coffee maker in my office, curse days are always crap

We're still investigating, but we're doing what we can to make sure he's under surveillance while we work through the evidence we have.

I don't know that I feel safe while he's running free, Kate.

I respect that, but I'm sure you know what he's capable of. If we attempt to detain him, it could prove a worse situation that simply allowing him to believe that we're routinely investigating.

If you'd like, I can arrange for somewhere for you to stay. A witness protection kind of thing?

[A pause as she's taken aback by Beckett's gender switch for a moment. However, business first.]

Forensics has concluded our investigation of the original crime scenes; I e-mailed you a more detailed final report a moment ago. As I suspected, we were unable to discover any new evidence pertaining to the crimes. I also took the initiative to go over the physical evidence gathered during the initial investigations of the assaults. The conclusions drawn from them remained unchanged after my review - a separate report of this is included in the e-mail.

[Next is added tersely, because Brennan hates admitting she was unable to find anything new despite the numerous overtime hours she spent on every little detail.]

Forensically, there's nothing to definitively tie the suspects to these crimes.

[If she wasn't a man, Beckett would be more attuned to Brennan's frustration. Unfortunately at this point, she's just feeling too much of her own.]

Great, so I've got two victims breathing down my neck and possible killers still on the loose. And it doesn't seem we'll ever have definitive evidence of anything. Ever.

[And if Brennan, in turn, were more attuned to other people socially and emotionally, she'd probably realize Beckett didn't mean it as a personal insult to her capabilities but is venting her own frustrations. It doesn't help Brennan's indignation any that Beckett is telling her this in a voice that's distinctly male - she's dealt with one too many male officers that openly belittled her expertise.]

Oh? I would have expected someone with your experience to realize returning to crime scenes weeks after the actual crime took place to gather new evidence is statistically all but useless. The existing evidence simply did not match the suspects, and that's an irrefutable fact. But you are welcome to get a second opinion from somebody more accomplished in the field of forensic science than I am, provided you can find one here.

Character ref'rence's not enough I s'pose, ma--guv, yeah? Wish I knew when Ken'd been killed. Or that we 'ad forensic evidence of where 'e'd been shot. But if I knew when...I dunno. I see Ray nearly all the time cos of work an' goin' to the bar. An' I know that Ray never said nothing about knowin' that Ken was a po--um....a gay bloke. 'E don't act like one, guv. When 'e told us that that was why Ray killed 'im, it was news t'both of us.

Plus, I dunno if it counts for anythin' but Ray's not the sort t'shoot a bloke. If 'e 'ad a problem with Ken, he'd've sorted it out in a proper fight. Don't s'pose any of that counts as proper evidence, though.

We know all of this. It would help if we could get some information that was new or refuted the accusations, hmm? Or hell, why don't we just screw around for another week and let everyone run amok?

Maybe by then you'll be able to figure out what to call me.

[So, frustrated. And not handling the being male thing as well as she'd like everyone to believe.]

Just less of a turn on, Beckett...wait? Do I still call you Kate? Are you going to want wine with dinner tonight? I should probably put off seducing you until then.
