Awwww, You So Sweet!cuervolindaJanuary 30 2006, 12:25:31 UTC
No insults or inappropriate comments? Wow, you really MUST have had a good time. Thank you, too. I had so much fun I am exhausted right now, the victim of a "fun hangover". But I wouldn't say no to squeezing a goose drum if there were one under my desk.
I got invited to a work cocktail party tonight by a vendor. I'm taking a chance that the food isn't going to suck. Do I go and eat my way through a tray of chilled shrimp, or do I blow it off and come home a little early?

Hey, that 's my old stompin grounds! Actually, when it was the Lion's Head. My dad was part owner the last few years. Wes Joice was a family friend since before my dad met my mom. I have spent many many many many evenings there. The bathroom there is famous. If you found any of the old gang, they would have known my dad. My understanding is it's quite different now.

I really liked KOF, because of it's laid back atmosphere and friendly crowd. The jukebox selections were phenominally good, with a lot of 70's/80's rock in it. Many times someone was compelled to sing along with it.
Although it was low key, apparantly it's somewhat popular in NYC. One of my friends related a story about his friend playing darts all night with Jimmy Falon there. It might be a trendy bar, but it sure as hell didn't act like one.
In My day...sarahshevettJanuary 30 2006, 12:51:26 UTC
It was a writer's bar, No T V either. Lots of old crusty writers and lots of singing. I have lots of pictures of me in it. Most recently, I have encountered Michael Kors mom in a wierd goat related West/ East coast connection from meeting at the Lions Head during one of my dad's parties there.
Wes died about 10 years ago. I didn't know about the street sign, that makes me well up with tears. Mike Reardon died a few years later. Both he and Paul Schiffman were also good family friends.
Darts, TV and Christmas TreecuervolindaJanuary 30 2006, 13:34:11 UTC
I'd have to go back on a different night to get a fair idea of what it is normally like. The clientele was made up of about 70% of the guests for the going away party. They did have a giant TV, which I always find annoying, but once the music was going I forgot all about it.
I didn't meet any writers, just Film FOrum employees, since that was the occupation of the party gest of honor!
Thank you for posting the article. It must have been spectacular fun back in the day.
More Liza, Less LizcuervolindaJanuary 30 2006, 12:43:07 UTC
If I had access to all the shit Liz can get, do you think I'd be wasting my time posting on LiveJournal right now? Hell no! I'd be taking the Pepsi challenge between different synthetic opiates!
Do You Think Liz Has Silk Depends?cuervolindaJanuary 30 2006, 13:44:26 UTC
One full day walking around Manhattan and my feet only hurt a little! I am amazed by this stuff. They also use it to treat pain from diabetes. It's non-narcotic, working only on the seretonin in your brain. I'm thinking I should call Liz and tell her about this stuff.
After Capote was finished, did everyone in the audience just sit there, speechless, for a few moments, like they/we did in the movie here ? Wasn't P.S.Hoffman *a trip* as Capote !
They Didn't Even ClapcuervolindaJanuary 30 2006, 13:48:24 UTC
They were pretty quiet, but since I was sitting there in shock myself, I didn't notice what the rest of the audience was doing. I had forgotten what a creepy little bastard Truman was until I saw Capote. Didn't he and ndy Warhol used to touch each other's hoo-hoos? That's even worse.

I still haven't figured out why we-all were so stunned into silence ... was it Hoffman's killer-diller performance, or was it that Capote was revealed as who he actually was, a drunken worm with no scruples ?
