No Sparkle Shortz to be found! That would have truly been a glorius introduction, indeed! Lisa and I had a great time, which I will blog about no doubt. When we do finally meet, I shall pick you up and twirl you with glee! You were the very first person who's blog absolutely floored me with the quality and the smarts shining through. Soon, I promise, our paths shall cross!

Isn't the entire point of becoming a whore or a titty dancer to avoid the rigors of life in the world of the plain folk?

In my case, it's because, despite having a Bachelor's Degree and a solid resume, I've had a bitch of a time a. finding a "plain folk" job, and b. even when I have had such a job, I couldn't make ends meet without some supplemental income.

And, believe it or not, I pay taxes on it. (If only because I do phone sex, and my boss has a legal business, complete with 1099s and no health insurance.)

I think I'm gonna cry now.

That tax crap pisses me off. First off, phone sex doesn't pay enough, even though the owner is getting $5 for every minute you talk. They don't even have to pay for your computer and telephone, so the overhead is minimal. But I don't think a union is needed, crooked bosses who pay under the table are.

Depressingly, the crooked bosses are just as likely to stiff you a paycheck or ten.

I worked for several places before settling on this one. It's set up entirely differently than most phone sex operations: pays a decent flat rate by the session, not the minute (clients buy half-hour sessions, and the best part is they often can't hold out until the end! I make the same either way). The owner definitely makes more on the calls than I, but she also doesn't require ridiculous amounts of overhead: just a few options on our home phones, no extra lines or nuthin'. Oh, and no whoring for calls online, which I refused to do from the get-go. It doesn't pay enough (although it would if I got steady calls), but it's good for a supplement.

The other places I worked at for a matter of weeks were set up so that you'd make maybe 5-15 cents per minute and were penalized when clients finished too quickly. It's a high-turnover 'industry' and they typically treat you as disposable. I get terribly burnt out but I'm actually pretty lucky.

My Life as a Ho cuervolinda September 27 2004, 08:24:20 UTC
I work as a designer/illustrator putting presentations together for high-level auto-fellatiating men of importance who spin 7-figure deals in $500 suits. My services lend an air of conviction to their words and help to lessen the obvious, that they are doing the work of the Devil.

And there's a two drink minimum, but I get 30% of the liquor take after that.

Ah how silly of me to think you were somehow speaking literally on your job as a "ho" ;p

I'll blame "lack of sleep when I read this" over "being dense and not understanding sarcasm".
