6x10 Wilson

Surprise, surprise! This latest episode was actually pretty good. They can still do it, if they want to, TPTB. Wilson's patient story line was not terribly original but was still done well. Robert Sean Leonard is of course a good actor, nice to see him presented more fully. Especially since he had almost faded into the background lately and when he did make an appearance he was portrayed in an unusually unflattering light too. This showed him for what he is: flawed, well-meaning, sad, a friend, gullible, forgiving. House acted his usual arrogant self ... except for the strong involvement in trying to get the liver, and his admitting to Wilson that he is indeed not over Cuddy. What he said there, that he had accepted it, had to move on even though he didn't like it one bit, I don't know if we can take it at face value. It did seem genuine though. He did believe it, I think, at least when he said it; in the future, who knows? By the way, there's a good interview with RSL at BlogCritics.org, worth a read.

The one disappointing story line was Cuddy-yeah, I know, what else is new. Why does she want to buy a house/loft for her and Lucas? Why can't he just move in? To be on a more equal footing? But they aren't and never will be: she runs a prestigious hospital, he's a two-bit P.I.; she's beautiful, he's not; she's got quite a bit of money, he doesn't; she's ambitious, he's not. She is in love with House or at least thinks, fears she is. She just seems like someone rushing like crazy so as not to think about and stop what she's doing: head first into a traditional relationship with a boring guy. If she thought about it a bit, she'd acknowledge she's settling. I'm not saying House is perfect for her, no. But she's an ambitious, smart, vibrant woman who's a mismatch with Lucas. "Normality" may seem attractive but she's rushing things too much for her own good, even if it were what she really wanted. Anyway, we have seen little or nothing to explain how she's gotten into this state of mind. It should at least have been developed properly. It's all so out of character and she also has taken steps contradicting her expressed desires, e.g., the '80s dance with House at the conference, her asking him how/what they were when he just got back from Mayfield (while she supposedly had been seeing Lucas for quite some time already), her asking Wilson, stand-in for House, for "absolution" in 6x10, ... One more thing on this whole Luddy arc, from twitter yesterday:

@ GregYaitanes She just doesn't seem like herself anymore. I've never been annoyed by Cuddy and I have to say I'm really displeased with her.
@ Shenanipants maybe that's the idea.

So, does this mean that we're going to see a silly twist soon à la "she had a tumor that made her do things that didn't fit her personality"? Remember Woody Allen's 1996 Everyone Says I Love You in which the son, who had turned into a rabid right-wing Republican, was "cured" of his "repugnant" ideas after removing a tumor? Allen made it work, but then he's a genius. What else could our friendly producer Greg Yaitanes mean? Beats me right now. Here's hoping for the best. As William the Taciturn (supposedly) said: One doesn't have to hope to endeavor, nor succeed to persevere.
