I think FF generally has a pretty young readership, and sometimes authorship.
Not always, but generally.
This might account for some of the comments that have annoyed you - it's probably just immaturity.
I would like to send you a Ferrero Rocher to cheer you up, but I can't find a chocolate teleporter on my computer. Also, I've just eaten the entire box.
Hope my use of apostrophes is okay?
And you have a crap-on-a-cracker tag?? Brillo-pads!!!
It stands for An Archive Of Our Own, another fiction site. I've only posted 2 chapters of "The Princess And The Peeved" since the technical requirements seem a bit daunting.
I've never heard of it. The only fiction sites I know are fanfiction and House_Wilson, and I found the second one by accident. Since then, I've rarely bothered with FF - it just seems that most (but not all) of the fictions posted there are...well, childish - they are laden with teen angst. Of epic proportions! I dunno - that's just my opinion. And so I'm not surprised by some the comments you have come across over there.
So. I should probably stop giggling. Blame it on the weather, or something. Or your delicious Nice Day For A White Wedding that I just read.
You can't understand the way a real artist's brain works - so SUCK IT UP you mere mortal! Anyway, that's when the "don't like, don't read" rule comes in handy. *gives you ridiculous lollipop to cheer you up*
I guess there's nothing like truth in advertising, but I do wonder who reads a story after reading a summary like that.
I'm posting my fics only on an LJ that I set up just for my stories. I guess from what you've said here and what I've read in a couple of other places, I want to avoid ff,net -- which is fine because the process of posting it there looks a little daunting. Do you have anywhere else you recommend for posting (and reading)?
There's An Archive Of Our Own...I've looked at it, and been told there are generally older readers. Other than that, I don't know. I post here and on ff.net, if there's somewhere else I'd love to hear about it.

Does AO3 have an older reader/writership? Do a lot of people read it? (Yes, I'm a whore.)
