I also enjoyed it a lot and I agree about the old-school MOTW stuff (which incidentally kept on going nicely this week imho) and while I did find myself agreeing with a few beef's that people brought up afterwards, I don't think there's ever going to be an episode where you don't find those. I mean, we're all kinda romantic about the early seasons, I think, but they had those episodes or those parts of episodes, too, so I feel that because the quality has been lacking in some aspects of the show these past couple of years, we hold episodes like this one to a higher standard that might diminish our enjoyment. I'm glad you got over it and turned around to put this utterly enjoyable review together!
Also, Dylan Everett was ACES. (What I really wanna know though, is whether you have be named Everett to play any-age-Dean-that-is-not-Jensen-Ackles these days. Coincidences get curious and curiouser.)
I waited until Wednesday morning to read this and it wouldn't have spoiled me anyway! LOL.
Anyway, lovely review as always. Teen!Dean rocked my world. Though, like last year, I wonder why they couldn't spring for green contacts and a wig. What was the issue with canon?
