I used to work for a mortgage processing company & an appraisal company. Feel free to pick my brain.
I've been thinking along those lines too...my bro is getting married and I get to either a)move home with parents b)buy my bro's place c)rent d) buy my own lil' house or condo.
I have no idea what to do but I do not like the A. And C is pretty much, as you said, throwing away money that could be put into house equity.
It's true. When I think of it rationally, buying something is totally smarter than renting. It's just that the emotional part of me is like "Holy crap." :)
I was actually so shocked at this statement that I paused the movie I was watching. (Granted, I'd seen it before, but still...)
I...I...wow. I don't even know what to say here. Um...you need to call me. That's pretty much all I can think of.
And btw...if we make fun of people for getting married and having babies already when they have all their lives to do it, shouldn't this somehow fall into that category of growing up too fast?
I did, I actually paused the movie - and you know I NEVER do that. If I had been knitting, I would have dropped it...which happens so often during LOST that I've finally stopped knitting during it.
Wow...that is, as you point out, huge. Congrats on taking that first step. It's impressive. I'm impressed. I'm also a little floored. But that's awesome. I've thought about the rent aspect, too, and how much money we just throw away each month...it's crazy. But it's nice that you found an area that you're willing to take that step with. I make it sound like you're marrying the greater West Chester area... ;) I'm assuming that's where you're staying?) Just wow. But good for you!! =) I'm happy for you!! =)
So about that house-buying thing...

How 'bout you write about the actual buying it" deal", since that's what you did almost a week ago now! Geez, it's like you have better things to do than write in your blog.

I'm not feeling your confidence here, friend. I will call you, but only if you promise not to perpetuate my negative feelings about growing up. :)
