Today I spent several hours at work getting some sorting done while the kids weren't there, then I came home via the shops and bought myself a soccer ball.   This is because I have decided I want to take up soccer.  After kicking the ball around with the kids at school lots and having so much fun doing so, I've decided to try to find an adult ( Read more... )

The other option is indoor soccer. Pros: It's warmer and you need fewer players to get 2 teams on the park to play. Cons: you generally pay a bit more to play indoors than out.

If you find a beginners team, please let me know, because I've had thoughts of taking up soccer, but haven't found a suitable team.

After kicking the ball around the oval a few times with others, I've decided I need to improve my fitness a bit before actually joining any team or I'd be worse than useless.

So perhaps you'd be interested in kicking the soccer ball around a bit with me to develop some soccer skills. We could go to an oval near either my place or yours.

That works, given my current non-existant level of fitness too. When are you free?

Flying to Tassie for a week of IV on Sunday, so perhaps we should organise a time when I get back. Generally weekends and evenings are good for me (except Tuesday evenings).

A couple of years ago P and I did a season of indoor soccer, the competition run through the Albert Park Indoor Sports Centre. It was heaps of fun :-) However we had to get the team together ourselves, there wasn't one we could just join. I can't remember what the fee per game was, but most weeks it worked out to about $7 or so each, I think. We had to have proper soccer tops with numbers too, although they did provide opportunity to buy a teams worth of secondhand tops. We played on Sundays, times of games alternated and ranged from about 2pm through to late, like 9ish or so. It was a mixed team, which meant that we had to have at least 2 ladies on field at any time - no mean feat when there were only 3 ladies on our team, and we couldn't all make it each week!
