First post in new place

So while we've had internet since Monday, this is the first chance I've had to check my LJs or post anything here. The move from my in-laws went well as far as I'm concerned. They've already repainted the "office" that was our bedroom for the past year, and the downstairs bath for that matter. The storage unit has been emptied. Most of our ( Read more... )

I am not a parent and everyone knows this, however, yesterday at the doctor's office waiting for mom I was reading a parenting magazine and actually came across an idea for you. She is what....3? 4? and is also asserting her independence. The mag suggested when kids are in the oppositional defiant stage to do the opposite or something silly. Like when it is time for bed, lay on the floor instead of the bed. Or when you need to put toys away, put them in the bathtub instead of the toy box. The kid takes pity on you and shows you were to go or where to put things. No idea if this really works but hey, worth a shot.

The other idea is something my parents did. We got bedtime stories with a parent before we went to bed. We got to pick a book and sit in the bed with mom or dad.

Perhaps some new pajamas to get her excited about going to bed or a new stuffed toy.

I love the idea of the crafting time with her. That is soooo neat.

Caitlyn is four now, yes. :) Silly I can handle. And she definitely has her own ieas about how things should be (or where they should go). As it so happens we already do read to her pretty much every night. On Erin's latest shopping list for the apartment is Caitlyn's own bookshelf (two whole walls of our living room are lined w/ them!)
I think I'll be enjoying craft time w/ her too, as it will be a time set aside that I can do some artwork that I've been neglecting for far too long.

Caitlyn actually likes sleeping on the floor sometimes...maybe we should suggest sleeping in the bathtub as a more silly option ;) My mom and I also talked about getting her a mattress pad because she has complained about her bed not being comfortable and I really don't blame her I can't stay in it for very long before my hips are killing me.
