I agree completely with your review. While Series Three was much more enjoyable than Series Two, it had some problems. I think Fellowes is afraid to delve too deeply into topics that could be super-interesting, like the dropped story lines you listed above. One of the things I'm disappointed in is Branson's complete reversal of politics.

Agree with all points!

Even though I'm addicted to the show, it suffers from major flaws that keep it a far far far distant cousin to the 1970s Edwardian-to-1920s period drama, Upstairs Downstairs.
