“IT’S JUST MONROE, JUST FOR THE RECORD”
Why Monroe’s name isn’t “Eddie”.

Let’s look at the facts first.

1. He has never been called Eddie in canon, only ever Monroe, starting when he answers the phone with his name in 1.02.

You forgot the part where Monroe is definitely the sexier name to moan.

Any name with rrrrs in it is sexier by default, THIS IS TRUE.

the ONLY good thing about using the name Eddie in fandom is that at least EVERYONE is using it. unlike Inception where i'd read 20 fics that give 20 different first/last names for Eames/Arthur

but Monroe doesn't even feel like an Eddie to me. idk. Monroe sounds better. and yeah it's a sexier name to moan ;-)

The thing about Arthur and Eames is though, that none actually believed those were their canon names. Unlike Eddie. /shrudders

yeah that's true, i suppose. i'm just clutching to the fact that at least the Grimm fandom is consistent for once. lol.

Oh oh no kidding. I've been in some fandoms, read a fic, and had no idea who the hell they were talking about b/c they'd decided on a name and used only that for one of the characters. Such a nightmare.

I have to admit to being mostly curious about where Eddie even came from. So that part was definitely of the most interest to I. It is interesting though that the powers-that-be seem to have just gone with the one name only- even if Monroe preferred to go by that, the website etc. not listing a second name is.... very curious.

It is not quite as curious if you remember that Captain Renard and Sgt. Wu are only ever listed with their rank too, not their first name. Although his might express closeness (or lack thereof) to the main character.

That's true indeed! Although I'd expect it from them, considering they're only secondary characters really, and Nick doesn't have the same familiarity with them, as he does with Hank/Juliette/Monroe.

A big part of why I wrote this was because it looked like a lot of people coming into the fandom now, with a few more episodes down, were getting really confused by the name Eddie and where it came from. I'm glad it helped clear that up. :)

I really don't know why they'd do that either, but it seems so strangely deliberate. Maybe we'll end up finding out? It'd be good if we did!

Thankyou for this cause I was seriously just about to ask how we all knew his name was Eddie?

I just assumed I missed it in an episode and went along with it. Damn now its going to be hard to associate him with anything else.

I wonder what his first name actually is?

You're very welcome!

It seriously DOES NOT HELP that his name isn't mentioned in the first episode at all, and then only ONCE in the first four episodes at all. It makes it easy to miss, and easy to just pick up on the misinformation online.

It's still entirely possible that Monroe IS his first name now. Either way, I kind of hope we do find out eventually.

When was it mentioned in the first four episodes?

Also, I always did wonder where the Eddie came from. Great info!

1. I love you for this despite having never seen the show at all.

2. What the HELL is Hap wearing in that scene and why is he wearing it when Monroe has two shirts and a sweater.

3. Monroe is ABSOLUTELY the better name to moan.

4. My personal head canon RE Inception is that Arthur is a surname.

1. YOU NEED TO TRY IT STILL :D

2. Hahaha, idefk. Hap is the cutest, dorkiest Blutbad though. The day after that the girl in the episode is wearing nothing but a tank top at night/in the morning too, which is also kind of insane considering it's apparently like, sub-5C in Portland at the moment. XD

3. Names with Rs in them are ALWAYS better for moaning. And just saying in general. Arthurrrrr.

4. I actually don't mind that idea at all. I've always just defaulted to thinking of it as a first name, but it being a surname works really well too.

Love your post (thank you!).
RE: 2. People here in the Pacific Northwest are weird about temps/weather. It's commonplace to see people washing their cars in shorts and sandals at 4C. Anything above 25C is OMGTOOHOT-IMMELTINGGGGG! Seriously. ;-)
