Regarding the third question, there is plenty of room in the dorms (unless they try to fit 4 people into your room, instead of 3). I would go ahead and bring those books.
1) When in doubt, bring more. You'll find that when you factor in sharing with suitemates and hallmates, it goes surprisingly quick. Those big cartons of Goldfish were popular, as were boxes of crackers/cookies/cereal/etc.
2) I way overpacked, and only did laundry once or twice. Trust me, you'll have the time to do it as many times as you need to. Block out a sleepy Sunday morning and you'll be good to go. Make sure you have the basics -- jeans, shorts, tee-shirts, a couple of sweaters. Sundresses are my favorite survival accessory -- I must have brought fifteen. The dances (of which there are a few) aren't formal, but they might be themed. We had a fifties dance organized by the RAs one night -- and of course, they don't tell you what the themes are beforehand. It's always a good idea to bring bright, 80s clothes and skanky dance clothes.
3) There's totally enough room for anything you might wish to bring. There's a crapload of shelfspace/cabinet space, in addition to wardrobes, bookshelves, and dressers.
Just a couple more weeks? Is there confusion on the start date, or are your weeks longer? :-). It's *nearly* 2 weeks until daughter leaves for Chicago, and then she's *there* for three weeks before CSSSA. So that makes almost 5 weeks until it starts -- more than a month -- by my calculations.
