after the rescue...

Grissom moved down the corridor, looking into each doorway. She had been asleep when Jool woke up, and Aeryn and John needed his help to calm her. D'Argo had, apparently, gone to check on her, and she proceeded to freak out completely ( Read more... )

She hugged the wall, terrified that they were going to come back. She needed to get off this ship somehow, she could get back to Gil. Another dead end. Finally tired of everything she sank to the floor and cried, impatience and fear getting the best of her.

The DRD rounded a corner and stopped, then zipped backwards and headed for GRissom, making every noise he could think of.

Grissom moved faster once he realized what had the DRD in such a tizzy. He rounded the corner and saw Catherine huddled against the wall. "Cath," he said as he got closer, kneeling down with his hand out. In the back of his mind, he knew better than to come up behind her like that, but he wasn't exactly thinking protocol, at the moment.

She screamed and tried to scamper away, but her legs were too sore. "Leave me alone!" In her hear and fuzzy mind, she didn't recognize him. She loked around her, looking in vain for a weapon of any kind, but there was nothing. So she held her hands defensively in front of her, ready to attack should she need to.

Grissom sat silently, a collection of rags, bandages and ointment, cleaning Catherine's scrapes and bruises as she slept. He'd pulled little bits of rock from her knees and lower legs, and took extra care with her fingers, scraped raw from the mining, then wrapped her hands in clean bandages.

It was almost evidence collection in reverse.

Moving back toward her upper body, Grissom started with the scratches to her cheek. There wasn't much he could do for Catherine's neck, though the handprint-shaped bruise was becoming more evident with every minute.

DRD-Greg was sitting on the table next to the rag pile, offering Grissom a freshly-dampened cloth.

Catherine stirred, then slowly woke. She looked around, vaguely recognizing where she was. She looked over and as her vision cleared she recognized the man sitting with her.

"Gil?"

Grissom had drifted off after a while, but the second her heard her voice, his eyes were open and he leaned toward her. "Stay," he whispered, reaching for her arm. Slowly, his eyes on her the entire time, Grissom moved his hand up to her shoulder and then to her cheek.

He leaned slightly to get a look at her eyes and smiled, seeing her in there. "You're safe."

"Where is Jool? Is she okay?" She looked around, "What about the other women who were with us? Did they get away? Are they okay?"

Grissom set Catherine down on her bed and went to work, loosening the top sheet as he figured that would make it easier when she was mid-hot or cold flash.

"You want another pillow?" he asked, motioning to the one she already had.

"Yes please."

She lay down and cuddled into the covers. Freezing now.

Grissom nodded to her and pointed to the hallway before leaving the room. A moment later, he returned with his pillow, top sheet and blanket. He dropped the sheet and blanket at the side of the bed and pushed his pillow under hers, then leaned down to pick up the blanket.

He could already see that she was shivering and made quick work of covering her with the second blanket, knowing that she would soon be sweating.

She shivered and gave him a smile, "thank you."

She took a breath, "Gil ... would you stay with me? I want you to stay. I really don't want to be alone.

Grissom's brow shot up as Catherine pulled her shirt off. 'Focus,' he reminded himself. Clearing his throat, Grissom redampened the cloth and pressed it between her shoulderblades.

"Pilot," he said a moment later, "can you turn a fan on?" He didn't even know if Moya had fans, of course.

Catherine did not care about her dignity at this point. She was burning up and the less clothes she had on the more comfortable she would be. Except she just kept getting warmer.

"I feel like I am burning from the inside." She pushed him away, his body temperature was adding to it, so it was nothing personal, she jut didn't want the extra heat source.

"Pilot," Grissom called, "does Moya have ice?" Even he could feel the burning of Catherine's skin.

"She does, Mister Grissom. I will send someone to her quarters with it."
