Why I have The Courtship of the Yonghy-Bonghy-Bo running through my head this morning, I have no idea. It's a story from my childhood, beautifully and bizarrely illustrated.

I have a clear memory of my father reading it to us in the first house I ever lived in, and a clearer memory that it was my little brother Aidan's favorite. Not sure if he ( Read more... )

There can be no steeling for me against that thought. I disintegrate when I think about it. BAH!

2 things.

Thing 1: When you get in town, we will go to the thrift store. We will buy ugly plates that no one adores. We will find an alley and smash these ugly plates TO BITS! It will be shaterriffic. SLAMTASTIC. SMASHPOW! Liberating, even.

Thing 2: (mistyped originally as THONG 2...heh) When I saw Lawrence Ferlinghetti at the Poetry Center when I was 19 it was...calm. It was reverent. It felt off. There was no madness in it and it made me sad.

So we will smash the plates and spout alley words for them in their new gravel graves. Someone's gotta bring the noise. Might as well be us.

I need to scan some pages of Mousekin's Golden House, which is my favorite autumn book.

I love that you memorize and *perform* your poems. It's a thrill to watch.
