The Greatness and Glory of My Life Today...

May 01, 2012 13:02

This morning I read Nicole Kornher-Stace's post-apocalyptic katabasis novel, not yet published, in three hours, from 8:30-11:30. And then, having forgotten to eat breakfast, I made lunch.

And over lunch (leftover enchiladas), I read Francesca Forrest's new story, Tilia Songbird, only it's the kind of story that leaves you ACHING for a WHOLE LOT ( Read more... )

Oh I love the hell out of Tilia Songbird. Mountains and wind and goats and spontaneous combustion and all.

What do you love MOST? Or... like... five random MOST things. Which is to say, the whole story was MOST, really, but just talk some more!!!

Tilia, just, the whole thing with Tilia and the way she was.

The little bit with the guy who owned the barns being stupid with his straw and how he behaved.

Anj, the way she was, too. I wonder where her career goes from here and what she will do.

The end. NO KISSES.

It will be a delicious treat for you upon your weary homecoming! It will give you a hug and a shoulder to cry on and a song to sing you to sleep. And soaring dreams.

I like Ang too! To me, Tilia herself was like a thing of fairy tales, and she was a force that sort of accreted people into her sphere, as it were, and transformed them. Anj resisted! But not entirely.

I think you wanted the edges and trappings of the story to be the story. To me, the story was always Tilia's story (because of the title), and the narrative perspective of the outsider, Anj, hinted at many other stories to be plundered. But this one was, in essence, a love story. On many levels.
