I really like this. Castle has clearly learned a lot from his time with Beckett - and yeah, why settle for the fictional version? :)

I can say that the reveal that he hadn't slept with Natalie kind of shocked me at first, and then lead directly into wondering why. The fact that he apparently wasn't willing to take advantage of the no-strings-attached fictional version throwing herself at him . . .

Thanks for the comment :)

I'm glad you picked up on the thing with his one ex-wife (Alexis' mom) and how that might have helped give him the strength and understanding to discern between the person and the character. It was one of the first things I strongly picked up on during my first time watching the ep. As earnmysong said, I really think You may live fiction, but I only write fiction. is an amazing line.

It makes me wonder if the casting of Laura Prepon as Natalie was quite intentional, because she LOOKS like his mother, his daughter, his first ex-wife. Yeah, she also pulled off Kate Beckett, but even then she looked like a mixture of Beckett and the other women in his life.

I was amused by how the lengths that Natalie was willing to go to at first impressed Castle, then eventually weirded out everyone as they were drawn into what she was willing to do. You know that he had to have that realization between when Beckett saw the elevator doors close on him and Natalie, and the next morning. Then, given Natalie's "is he gay??" question, you also know that realization had to have hit him quickly and hard.

I don't know if it was intentional or not. I hadn't noticed anything along those lines (not to say that it's not there, just that I didn't see it).

I also was amused but kind of found it even more hilarious to see Beckett's reaction to the proceedings (how he was taken down a peg by the actress ignoring the inspiration for the script in favor of the original source of Castle's inspiration among other things.)

Oddly I think had it been Beckett playing Heat he wouldn't have cared. It's one less level of "meta" for him to worry about as well as the fantasy AND reality aligning along with the stars.
