The End of Many Eras

So, today, Chael informed me that with the new year, the Gossamer admin server and Tooms are probably moving back to a shared server environment; almost all the chaos.x-philes.com mailing lists are being retired; and I'm posting this from my new netbook which seems to be kind of pissed off with the way I type.

Well, this netbook is definitely some sort of new world order. It's Ubuntu instead of Windows, and wow, it takes some getting used to the idea of all my Internet stuff actually being integrated in with my desktop. Guess that is what a netbook should be all about, eh?

Although the pissiness is related to the mousie touchpad, which also doesn't agree with me on my Windows laptop to the point where I have completely disabled it. Apparently my thumbs wander too much while I type thus dragging my mouse pointer around my screen as my thumbs hover and dance over the touchpad. Unfortunately this netbook does not have both the either/or option of the touchpad or eraser-mouse, so I either have to come to peace with the touchpad or disable it and buy a wireless mousie instead.

And as the kid is going around shouting: Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night ;)

Ah, Gossamer. i tell ya, I miss a centralised fandom. i actually am close to braving fanfiction.net for Haven and TSCC fic. The horror, the horror!

I don't think anyone wants to do the work or have the tolerance that results in a centralized fandom anymore. When resources were limited, all the various 'ships and other genres had to share and had to tolerate. Nowadays, the shippers for couple a and the shippers for couple b won't even hang out on the same web forums . . . and don't have to. :(
