Torchwood : 1.11 Combat

Dec 24, 2006 22:53

Now THAT is what I call a good ol' fashioned episode of Torchwood. After 1.09's utter shittyness and 1.10's hit/miss as far as an episode goes, this is pure heaven. I have SO much squee for it right now.

Points of (semi-coherant) squee:

1) Ianto. Dear gods the utter amount of Ianto screen time was pure bliss! And he was wearing his darker suit/shirt/ ( Read more... )

Did he just steal his name like everyone seems to think?

Its got to be this one. Or someone stealing his identity that he set up in the 1940s. Because if it were actually him, then JB would be playing both parts, and that wasn't JB.

1940's, eh? I knew I was wrong with '1950'. I never was any good with dates XD

I suppose it must be as, like you say, the guy most definitely was not JB as we all know and love him. Wonder what his real name/identity is. He wouldn't have to change his name would he? I mean when the others find out? It'd be weird not calling him Cpt Jack Harkness anymore!

Christmas day, almost three am and I just finished the episode. Totally agree, a really great one in so many ways. First, yes Ianto gets first props (how badly am I sitting here willing it to be next week so I can watch that disheveled arguing with Owen, him growling out 'he's our leader!'...? Very very badly. :D) I loved him doing the good cop/bad cop with Jack and the two of them contemplating the Weevil's having emotions.
Owen owen... Owen needs to shag evil Not! Jude law guy. Was it wrong that the entire scene at the rich guy's loft I was expecting them to just lose their close and go at it?
Away with you Gwen! Selfish lady, go cry and eat pizza!
And Jack was fabulous, no qualms there XD Tosh was great, i can't wait to see more of her next week too... Must stop rambling and sleep!

I totally need to get my claws on a download, my faith in this series has been rekindles, thank goodness. I was beginning to worry for a moment there!

And just UNGH to all those moments you pointed out- can't believe I forgot to mention that 'Not!Jude Law' guy, haha, I was all like- "they're so gonna do the dirty" whilst watching them. And then they never :( They were definitely giving each other the eye though, heh. I think fic may be in order to make up for the lack of smexing between them.

And yes, away with Gwen. I don't know what's happened to her. So much for Jack's 'stay human' (even as he sweeps her away from Rhys there at the beginning). That woman needs to have a good sit down and a think over just what on earth she's doing.

Eeee for next weeks episode! The anticipation may well kill me. XD

See, you liked that episode for all the reasons I kind of didn't. My problem with Torchwood is that it doesn't know what it's trying to be. The episodes aren't sci-fi enough to be sci-fi, they're almost Buffy but not quite, and it's not really Doctor Who. It seems to be a mixture of different things, but that doesn't work when you're trying to make an adult sci-fi show. Anyway. That's a whole other rant ( ... )

See now, I can completely agree with all your points, which means I probably shouldn't be fangirling as much as I do but oh well! I think with series one they were just trying to find their feet, do quick character episodes that were frankly not up to the standards we're expecting and rushing certain plot elements they would have done better taking longer to explore.

That said, series two, I hope they'll take all this into consideration and start thinking more long term, they at least have to work on their plot consistency because- my god- that is sorely lacking on some fronts.

I still loved this episode though ::squishes it:: On a whole I think it's probably down to the fact that last two were so 'bad', to me at least! :D

Yeah, I'm hoping series two is better, simply because by then I'm hoping the script writers will have got together and actually talked about where they want to go with this. I love some episodes, and I would watch it, whatever they did, 'cuz John's hot and I'm a pathetically shallow fangirl. *roll eyes* But it would be nice to have a good storyline too.

You know, with the whole "super intelligent" fight club setup, you'd think they'd know not to text the dead dude's phone with the coordinates. :O Maybe they wanted to get caught XD

I've never actually seen fight club, but I was pondering about that mobile too- that was just damn stupid, especially since they took the time to wipe the history clean before leaving it for the Torchwood crew to pick up. Silly wabbits!

I was very, very drunk when I watched it at 4am, so I spent most of my time alternately giggling and gasping. With a fair amount of drooling thrown into the mix..

I've watched it like four times already and giggling and gasping's what I tend to do, and that's without being drunk! heh. Drooling too, there's always drooling involved with Torchwood XD
