I'm half way through The Talons of Weng-Chiang and feeling seriously underwhelmed. This was voted the best Doctor Who story ever?!? Yeah, it's good, but it's not that good.
All right-minded fen like Robots of Death. Really, Four and Leela get a lot of gems. Imagine my shock on discovering that fandom at large apparently thinks that The Sunmakers is crap. D:
There are good things in Talons--like Leela--but the fact that Bob Holmes and co. seem as Victorian in their attitudes as Jago and Lightfoot make it... um. Yes. Not exactly all it could be. How that could beat out a story like The Face of Evil for the top slot, I'll never know.
I'm not going to kid; I kind of love Four in the deerstalker, and Jago & Litefoot have some pretty awesome dialogue. At the same time... eyelid tape ???
Yeah, Jago and Litefoot were awesome, the rest of the story is just pretty meh. Who are these people who like it enough to consider it as their favourite story though?!?
Ah, well, I know a few and they're nice people all. We get into regular discussions about who okayed the whole yellow face thing and whhhhyyy. Best we could figure, is that originally, the character was supposed to be white Victorian pretending to be Chinese to draw in that Eastern Mystic (as Victorian magicians did), and then something went horribly horrible wrong. Interesting discussion.. yeah... The whole thing is just very head-scratchey.
I thought Genesis of the Daleks was the Best Story Evar. I'm sure my DVD has a little sticker claiming that. Or at least it will still have once I figure out where several of my DW DVDs have vanished to. Or is this a new vote that I've entirely missed?
It changes frequently, I think. Talons was the Best Story Evar in 2003, then everyone must have come to their senses. This year The Caves of Androzani is the Best Story Evar. I love how who fans are so consistent.

On, the other had I could watch The Robots of Death all the live-long day. Silly hats FTW!
I suspect I'm in a very small minority of DW fans.

Yeah, true. Although, Leela does kick ass, which is always a plus.
I haven't seen The Robots of Death yet, but 'silly hats' is making me want to watch it now!
