Vegetarianism

I LOVE being a vegetarian, I LOVE the decision I made. No one can take it away from me, it's my choice and I'm committing to it for as long as it feels right. I think I'm going to transition to being a vegan pretty soon. It's weird, I heard on a diet site that not eating eggs (which along with meat has been cast out of my food choices) makes me a ( Read more... )

Glad you found a diet choice that works for you.

I've been wanting to make a conscious choice to become a vegetarian, but it's really difficult because my boyfriend is one of those people who would eat meat for every meal if he could, and we also tend to eat out on the weekends and it seems impossible to find vegetarian choices in some places.

But that really shouldn't be an excuse. During the week I tend to not eat much of anything much less any meat products, I guess I just need to carry that through a bit more.

So what made you choose to become vegetarian if you don't mind my asking?

I actually had wanted to become a vegetarian since I was sixteen but couldn't find the motivation. Just like you, my family would always live on meat. :(
I just decided about a month ago that I didn't want any part of it anymore. There is a lot of animal cruelty behind meat products, I saw a few videos about it and it just made my stomach knot. It was horrible!!

Vegetarianism means a lot to me, I'm so glad I made this choice! My mom doesn't understand it, but that's okay. :)

Animal cruelty is definitely something that should have more attention paid to it...which is why I think it's a bit better to try and buy kosher meats if you're going to buy meat at all.

I was actually flipping through this book the other day and it said that one of the big reasons for animal cruelty and general maltreatment in the meat industry results from the fact that mostly all of the red meat in the United States basically comes from four main manufacturers. In a way, this could be a good thing because there are uniform standards and the actual regulation of practices can be done more easily. But at the same time, having corporations that large leads to higher rates of animal mistreatment. Not only that, but I'm always weary of big business.

My mum didnt really approve of my vegetarianism at first either. But she soon got used to it. I still eat eggs and have goats milk/cheese instead of cow stuff cause cow stuff makes my throat go funny. But I don't mind eating eggs and things like that anyway as long as I know theyre not from caged hens. Which my mum refuses to buy caged eggs anyway so I'm safe there
