winter journeys

i got back last night from my trek down south. i travelled almost 800 kms in not ideal driving conditions. i spent a lot of time rocking out to metric's "live it out" album, which is totally awesome. i met lots of people and learned a few things. i stayed in a hotel by myself, which is probably the first time i've ever done that. it was kind of ( Read more... )

Yea, actually I'm sure that everyone has a collection of people in their minds. For me personally, when I'm on a treadmill, I think about people I've met so that I can distract myself from being tired. I sort of "fake out" myself into forgetting that I'm really physically exerting myself.

I don't know what my opinion on climate change is coz I don't think I know enough about the subject. I guess my stance is that it makes economical sense to be more energy efficient, regardless of the environmental aspect anyway.

climate change is not an opinion. it is a scientific fact. look it up. yeah, it'll make a lot of economic sense once we're up shit creek without a raft. the damage to the amazon is almost irreversible, there's more carbon in our atmosphere than ever before and it has increased at a rate faster than ever before, and we just keep on keepin' on, with corporations telling us that we "need" our cars and new walmarts b/c economic development will suffer. and the oilsands are using more water than they ever thought thye would, making saskatchewan at a severe risk of not having enough water in 10 years... all to make a buck. not to mention how that all ties in with car culture and climate change, not to mention what it means to take that much oil out of an area at one time... which they don't know because they haven't studied it b/c that would have probably hurt their propsal for the oilsands in the first place ( ... )

Ha ha, nice. So let me say that I agree with in that climate change IS occuring because of people. The point that I was trying to make is that you can pitch energy efficiency to Anyone since it makes economical sense to spend less money, right?

In any case, as an electrical engineering student, I know that Canada is one of the worst countries in the world for energy consumption per capita. Part of it is the hot summer (air conditioning) and cold winters (heating), but a lot of it would be the extravagance too--ppl living in huge houses and driving huge cars.

In the end tho, I don't know enough about climate change to argue about it, and i'm sure that tons of people in the general population are the same way.
