“Margene did you borrow my vacuum cleaner without asking again?” Nickie demanded, barging into Margie’s house.

“No, Nickie, I don’t borrow things without asking you,” Margie shot back, bouncing Aaron up and down on her hip to get him to stop crying.

“Well my vacuum cleaner is missing and I know today is the day you clean,” she said, narrowing her eyes.

“Dammit Nickie, I didn’t take your stupid vacuum!” Margie shouted only making her little boy cry harder.

“Then I guess you don’t mind if I take a look around,” Nickie fumed, searching around Margie’s house for her vacuum cleaner.

Margie scoffed and rolled her eyes.

“Shhh my little angel, there’s nothing to be upset about,” Margie cooed softly to Aaron, putting him against her chest and rubbing his back softly.

After a little bit, Aaron had settled down and stopped crying. It didn’t take long for her to get him asleep and she placed him in his little playpen. Nickie walked back into the room.

“I just remembered that I leant it to Barb, sorry I accused you,” Nickie said softly.

“It’s ok Nickie,” Margie sighed, gathering up some toys.

“Margie…I…about the other night…there’s something I wanted to say,” she said.

“I thought you didn’t want to talk about that night anymore,” Margie said curtly.

Nickie sighed.

“Yes I know I said that, but I do. I guess I didn’t want to deal with my feelings about it. I was never very good at that,” Nickie replied.

“No really?” Margie smiled sarcastically.

Nickie smiled a little bit.

“I just wanted you to know that the other night, I felt all those things too,” she said softly.

A shocked look crossed Margene’s face.

“Really?” she asked, moving closer to Nickie and pulling her into a hug.

“Yes, really,” Nickie replied and this time she didn’t stiffen when Margie wrapped her in a tight hug.

Nickie allowed herself to feel something she had never let herself feel before. Love. It was pure love Margie was giving her and all Margie expected back was the same thing. And Nickie was sure she could finally give that back to her.
